There is no shortage of English-speaking dentists in the various coastal towns of the Costa. Many of these dentists are English, Scandinavian, Dutch or German and have set up private practices here. The quality of dentistry is identical to that you would expect in the UK but once more the relative costs of living mean that it will cost you much less than you might expect. In fact the price you might expect to pay in the UK in pounds is the price you will pay here in Euros which effectively means that dentistry is 40% cheaper in real terms.

Dentists can advertise their services so to all intents and purposes they are running a commercial business and the prices charged must therefore be competitive to attract business to the practice. Dentistry, apart from the services of the dental hygienist, is not normally covered on health insurance.

Should you require the services of a dentist it is better to find a high street dentist rather than the dentist who is operating a practice in one of the franchises in a large department store or hypermarket. These dentists are primarily catering for the tourist population who do not know where to find the best local dentists and as a result their charges are often much higher and may even be similar to UK prices.
