To be really happy in the long term you also need to consider very carefully what you want or expect in life. The Costa del Sol is still a holiday destination so this means that during the height of the summer, many areas can be very busy. The roads are busy. The restaurants and bars are full and life can go on until very late in the night. If you choose a holiday area you must recognise this. That wonderful quiet apartment or townhouse may turn into a very noisy place to live for a few weeks in the summer or during half-term holidays. On the other hand that same area can be dead during the low season. Many of the properties around you may be locked and shuttered and you may have no neighbours. Life could be lonely but perhaps you want and enjoy solitude. We certainly prefer the low season.
