Renting Property
Renting property
If you are making your first move to the Costa del Sol and you are undecided about the exact area in which you want to settle it makes a lot of sense to rent first and use that initial location as a base from which to look around to find the property you finally want to buy. After all, if you rent a property which you do not like you can move out very easily and try somewhere else.
Renting is not difficult and there are many properties available for medium- to long-term rentals. In the majority of cases they will be furnished and rents can be surprisingly low. Just casting a quick look through one of the local English language newspapers at the time of writing shows that there are many properties of all sizes available for less than €1,000 per month. So, if you rent for your first three months on the Costa del Sol it could cost you almost £2,000 but it could save you considerably more than this should you make the wrong decision by buying too quickly. Holiday rentals can be very expensive in the high season but in the low season you should be able to negotiate very good deals with property owners here. After all, if you do not rent the property it might actually be empty so the owners are prepared to do a deal.
