Social clubs

If you move here and you want to organise your life around social clubs you will find no shortage of opportunities. The only problem might be choosing the club.

Your decision when you move to the Costa del Sol might depend on your interests when you lived in the UK. Just going through one of the local English language newspapers for the coast I can list the following possibilities.

  • Should you want to belong to the Royal British Legion (Spanish branches) there are opportunities in Estepona, Mijas, Fuengirola, Benalmadena, Nerja or Torremolinos.
  • Conservatives Abroad are represented in Fuengirola and Mijas – there is also a Costa del Sol International Labour Group which operates in Fuengirola, Nerja, Torremolinos and Estepona.
  • The Rotary Club is present in Benalmadena, Benahavis, Estepona, Fuengirola, Marbella and San Pedro.
  • The Toastmasters’ Club is contactable in several areas on the coast.

These are the clubs that have international recognition, but there are many others which would welcome English-speaking expatriates. Some of these clubs offer services to very specialised sections of the community, some are more wide-ranging but you do need to look at the possibilities when you move here and decide which, if any, you wish to join. The contact numbers are in all the local English language newspapers. Most offer very good social possibilities and the opportunity to meet others who have taken the same decision.
