COFFEE
The UK’s coffee-bar culture has developed significantly over the last decade. A recent investigation into the coffee chain market by leading market researchers, Allegra Strategies (Project Café6: December 2005) found the following:
- In 2005, the branded coffee chain market was worth over £ 1 billion.
- The market is set to grow to £ 1.4 billion by 2008, with further expansion in provincial areas and smaller towns.
- UK consumers are visiting branded coffee chains more frequently.
- Price sensitivity for coffee has declined.
- Cappuccinos and lattes are the most popular coffee beverages.
With the increasing popularity of coffee, options for earlier opening (through changes in the Licensing Act) and the increased demand for food, many UK publicans will benefit by making coffee available to their customers.
Offering good quality coffee can help:
- Attract new types of customers.
- Encourage customers to use your pub at different times of day.
- Extract more money from diners wanting a coffee to round off their meal.
