Emergency Access Route

Emergency access route

The size and type of event is an important consideration when deciding on specific, dedicated emergency routes. For large events, if there is the likelihood of significant or critical injury such as in some sporting events, or drug-taking and physical collapse as in some types of pop concerts, just as you have considered introducing an emergency medical helipad, you should consider introducing an emergency access route.

If required, the emergency access route should only be used for the arrival and departure of emergency services vehicles. Consultation with fire, police, ambulance and local authorities will help you to decide if this is necessary and if so, what the route should be. It should allow the quickest and easiest access to the main road network. It should be clearly signposted. And above all, it should be manned and available at all times. For example the emergency access route may bring fire police or ambulances from the bypass, along a private farm lane, in through the farmyard and directly into the site, with signs showing them how to enter by ‘Main Gate’, ‘North Gate’ or ‘Arena Gate’.
