Health And Safety
Health and safety
The key consideration in terms of licensing and permissions is that you must consult your local authority, fire service, police and the health and safety executive for advice to ensure that everything is safe and correct. (See Chapter 5, ‘Health and safety’, for more information.)
Your aim has to be to make the event safe for everyone affected by it in any way. The authorities may require you to show that you have consulted the various authorities, undertaken risk assessments and acted on them, employed appropriately trained staff, and arranged for sufficient off-road car parking space etc. Check with your local authorities at your earliest convenience, stay in contact and benefit from their knowledge, skill and experience.
Electrical installations
The organisers of almost every event, regardless of the size, will need to arrange for electrical supply to be provided for the stalls, stands, event manager’s office and cash office etc.
Installing electricity to a temporary site and making it tamper-proof, child-proof and weather-proof is clearly a job for a professionally qualified electrician. The security and safety that they will guarantee is worth the cost. Wherever the site is, it is worth contacting the local electricity supply company for advice and quotes for them to provide the power supply, if not give advice regarding approved local tradesmen
