Keep records of research and decisions

Remember to keep records relating to your investigations and decisions as you work through this book. If during your research and planning in later chapters you discover a fatal flaw that will prevent you from delivering your proposed event, your records will allow you to return to any stage in your planning and research, allowing you to select different options and start your research and planning again from that point. For example you may want to come back and look at that weaving idea that we dismissed so quickly earlier on!

TIP

Remember to be honest with yourself. After a lot of research and planning that uncovered a potentially fatal flaw, it has been known for an event organiser to be unwilling to start all over again to research a new event type. Instead they ignore the flaw they put so much effort into discovering and ‘risk it’ by trying to run their event and hope the flaw goes away. If your research shows that there are flaws, trust it. Remember that discovering and resolving hidden problems and flaws is why you put effort into the research and planning in the first place, so that your final event will be a success!
