Sample procedure – heart attack

The sample procedure shown opposite contains the required critical information:

  • Title – South Budley Steam Extravaganza
  • Procedure name — heart attack
  • Procedure number – 21/1 (ie Chapter 21, Procedure 1)
  • Actions – list of actions to take
  • Performed by — list of people involved
  • Problem? – Note if any problem found during use
  • Written by and date – name of author and date written
  • Review due and reason – date review due and why, and
  • Checked by and date – name of checked approver.

The sample has been simplified to illustrate the use of procedures. No two events are the same, so it is impossible to define a standard procedure format. Depending on the event you are running, you could add a list of equipment that has to be available, for the procedure to be implemented. For example at a shooting competition, a security check procedure may require a range marshal to securely lock two access gates – they will therefore need keys, locks and chains!

Remember that if you include equipment in your procedures, you probably need to introduce a procedure that checks that all necessary emergency equipment is available and in working order at the start of every day.
