Telephones

At larger events, the event manager and cashier should have ready access to telephones. Though mobile phones would be sufficient, for larger events it could be worthwhile getting British Telecom in to advise on and arrange for a few payphones to be temporarily installed for public use.

I have never seen an event where there was not a long queue at the available payphones. As you can ‘rent’ them and set the call charge rate yourself, this is not just a convenience and service to the public; it pays for itself as well and, better still, may subsidise and pay for the event manager’s and cashier’s phones.

Give the telephone company sufficient warning. For simplicity and security the telephones should be located near the manager’s office, but away from the cash office. (Don’t give suspicious people an excuse to hang around near the cash office. Screen the office off if possible, and certainly keep crowds and queues away from it.)
