The Ideal Site

The ideal site

If there was an ideal site it would probably:

  • be a large, flat, level, dry, firm, field – providing an ideal event ground,
  • be located near and equi-distance from several large towns – providing a huge potential audience,
  • be located at a point where two or more motorways meet – providing superb, fast access, to high volume traffic and a high-profile motorway junction or intersection landmark for the public to find the site,
  • be on several main bus routes – for people attending by bus,
  • be a short walk from a main line railway station – for people coming by train,
  • have a high fence, backed by a thick, prickly hedge – providing a secure boundary,
  • have three huge, good quality, flat, dry, level fields nearby all owned by the same landowner, with gates on both sides – providing ample car parking and a readymade entrance and exit route, and all having access and exits to different main roads (for ease of traffic arrival and departure),
  • have a large tarmac car park providing parking for heavy trucks and caravans,
  • have a farm building and an electricity sub station, which could supply mains power and water – providing simple access to both, and
  • have a farm building that could be used for the event manager and cashier – providing a manager’s and cash office.

But, there aren’t many like that around!

The above ideal site would be perfect for most standard events and shows. If your event is unusual, for example that ‘Xmas Reindeer Rodeo’, or a shooting competition, you may benefit from taking a little time to amend or add to the above list to define perfect site for your event. This will concentrate your mind on the key attributes that you must have in your site.
