Rachel Bishop-Firth is a Personnel Manager with long experience of recruiting managers and professionals to a wide variety of senior roles.
Steve
Steve has several offers in the pipeline before he moves to Yorkshire, and is delighted to be offered a project management contract with a major accountancy firm shortly after his arrival. Well before the six-month contract is complete, he has again revamped his CV and is again talking to employment agencies. He also decides to do a management qualification by distance learning to enhance his project management skills.
Sue
Alan Green, the property manager for Pizza Place, had not been planning to recruit from outside the company for the role of facilities manager at their new head office. While he had been too busy to look seriously into the options, he was thinking of perhaps moving one of his existing team into the role as a development opportunity. There were a couple of people based in Birmingham and Liverpool who might have been suitable. Alan is very interested to get a call from a good candidate living locally – here’s a chance to save on his relocation budget! Following an interview, he offers Sue the job.
Brian
Brian is relieved to be offered the temporary contract at Zipco, as he only has a few weeks left in his old job. However, it is a shock to the system to leave British Engineering after so many years. Everything is done differently in his new role, he feels insecure as a contractor, and he hates the weekly commute to Scotland from the south of England. But after a few months, he finds to his surprise that he is starting to enjoy the change from his comfortable old routine.
Brian has started studying for a professional qualification by distance learning to increase his marketability. He starts his search for a new post well before the end of the Zipco contract. Brian has kept in touch with the supplier of the human resources software that they used at British Engineering and is delighted to get a call from his contact there. They have had a surge of new orders and need a mobile contractor to train buyers in how the system works – would Brian be interested? He takes on the role, and six months later he is in Beijing teaching the system to Chinese government officials through a translator. Brian decides that he finds life as a contractor much more interesting and enjoyable than he ever thought he would!
