Congruency – finding the matches

Everyone is different – each person has different wants and needs and different aspirations. This does not mean that you have to find different jobs for everyone in your department in line with their personal preferences. The trick is to see where there are overlaps, and skills can be put to work in creative ways.

Initially you may need to be innovative about how you match personal goals to the business needs, but there is usually some area of congruence if only you can find it. Realistically, you will never be able to satisfy everyone’s goals and please all the people all of the time. However, if you can offer some interesting and useful jobs that appeal to personal preferences you will be well on the way to gaining the willing co-operation of each member of your team.

Let’s look at an example:
