Making one development strategy work over and over again

It is rare that a training programme has only one nugget of useful information for the trainee. Usually there are lots of useful things that could be used, but it just isn’t realistic to change everything at once. The secret of making training really pay off is to revisit the training notes with the trainee and discuss what else might be useful. Then you follow the process outlined in Chapter 13 and support them through putting another technique or skill to work. A really good programme will produce several new skills or pieces of knowledge that will make a real difference to the individual’s success.

If a particular way of working is effective for one person, might it be possible for them to coach others who would benefit from this? Training doesn’t work on its own – but in the hands of a good manager it pays off over and over again!
