Preparing The Ground
Preparing the ground
Before sitting down to carry out an appraisal meeting, there are many things that need to be done to make things easier for both parties.
- Give plenty of advance warning – don’t spring the appraisal on someone without allowing them time to prepare.
- If possible, let them have the format you normally use ahead of time and ask them to self-appraise.
- Carry out your own appraisal before reading their self-appraisal, but try to compare the two before you meet so you’ll be able to establish all the discussion points ahead of time.
- Book a room where you will both be comfortable and there will be no interruptions.
- Do your homework – read everything you have, review the last appraisal, collect your supporting facts and evidence and have your discussion points listed.
