Work Rotation
Work rotation
This happens at all levels and some companies have a policy of management rotation at regular intervals of, say, two years. This means that the manager may find themselves managing purchasing for two years and then moving on to manage the marketing department for the next two years. Ideally, work rotation does not drop people in ‘at the deep end’ and a good work rotation programme will ensure that there is always a resident expert to refer to. Problems are likely to occur if pressure is high, as it takes time for newly placed people to climb the learning curve. However, it does create an excellent understanding of how other parts of the business operate.
