When you fall in love common sense flies out of the window. This is how it was for David and Doris Johnson when they found a down-at-heel mini chateau in the heartland of France. A three year restoration began - and with it a journey of discovery.
Throughout this section, it has been assumed that most of these items were done by a professional builder/joiner/glazer, etc. Kitchen and bathroom fittings were to be of moderate quality, not the cheapest, but certainly not the most expensive. Basic decoration provides for the materials and for the owner putting coats of paint/varnish on surfaces. Nothing has been allowed in these budgets for fittings such as shelves beyond those in kitchen cupboards. Bathroom/kitchen installation is to include some basic tiling and the bath would have a shower over it.
HOUSE 1 – HAUTE VIENNE: €11,000
